Dia De Los Muertos Galveston

Updated: Jul 3, 2023

Mexican heritage was on full display Saturday at the Galveston County Courthouse, 722 21st St., during the Dia De Los Muertos Fall Fiesta.

The event, organized and hosted by the League of United Latin American Citizens Council No. 151, was an observance of the traditional Mexican holiday, Dia De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.

Traditions of the holiday include honoring deceased family members with altars and shrines that include offerings of their favorite food and drink. Decorated skulls and marigold flowers also are traditional decorations.

The event on Saturday featured food, music and a community altar to those who have died.
