Scholarships

Galveston LULAC Council 151 has been awarding college scholarships to Galveston County students since the 1960s. Since the program began, Council 151 has awarded more than $900,000 in scholarship and financial aid.

As part of LULAC’s education efforts, the LULAC National Scholarship Fund (LNSF) was established in 1975 to provide scholarships to Latino students attending colleges and universities. Under the LNSF program, local LULAC Councils, in partnership with local and national businesses, award scholarships to students in their communities.

Our Mission

LULAC Galveston Scholarship Program

In the spring semester, students can pick up a LULAC Scholarship Application in their high school counselor’s office, here on the Official Galveston LULAC Scholarship website.  They must be filled out in its entirety with all the supporting documents requested on the application and returned to the address provided on the application.

The Scholarship Committee will review all applications submitted. If there is missing information, the application may be discarded. The scholarship committee chair will contact the students who receive a scholarship.

Each year Council 151 hosts a scholarship reception on the last Thursday in July. The students who receive a scholarship should make plans to attend the reception.

Importance of Education In Our Community

LULAC believes that an education provides stability in life, and it’s something that no one can ever take away from you. Hispanics who are well-educated and hold a college degree, increase your chances for better career opportunities and open new doors for yourself. For the entire world to really become equal, it needs to start with education. If everyone was provided with the same opportunities to education, then there would be less gaps between social classes. Everyone would be able to have an equal chance.
